Orbx previews their first Swedish airport for MSFS Gothenburg-Landvetter, ICAO: ESGG, soon to be released in the new Microsoft flight simulator. Gothenburg or “Göteborg” in Swedish is the second-largest city of Sweden. Gothenburg-Landvetter serves 7 million passengers annually to local, European, and long-haul destinations. Located about 20km from the city center, the airport hosts aircraft from regional turboprops up to long haul and charter operators such as TUI and Qatar. The city of Gothenburg is also home to Volvo meaning you get to see the Antonov An-12 visiting the airport from time to time.
The scenery itself features brand new PBR materials and a completely-rebuilt ground poly utilizing both custom GP textures, updated static aircraft types, a host of new unique GSE equipment, and many more. This makes the airport look ultra-realistic with accurate 4K 3D modeling of the airport terminal building end even features interior modeling! The uniquely shaped parking-garage outside of the terminal even features correct advertising from real life. Gothenburg-Landvetter recently has undergone a terminal and apron extension which also is correctly and clearly modeled in the sim with 4 new moveable glass-jetway boarding bridges instead of the old fashioned green colored bridges and the brand new dark asphalt on the new apron. Although this is the most detailed and up-to-date version of Gothenburg-Landvetter the developer promises it is “Painstakingly optimized for very high performance”.

2020.10.07 00:53 MelChinook I had a very real raw and painful panic attack on my way into work today because I heard a song.

I've been a long time lurker on this page. I feel very much in tune with almost everyone here. Today pushed me to finally reach out to anyone who will listen/read.
If you read this... thank you.
I'll be 28 in December and from the age of infancy to about 17 years old, I grew up in the First Romanian Pentecostal Church. As I got older,, my parents and I would get into fights every Sunday cause I didn't want to go to church. (I didn't like it... didn't fit in.) My older siblings began to attend a American non-denominational church and started bringing me too. I eventually told my mom I didn't want to go to her church anymore which broke her heart but in the end I think she was just happy that I still attended church... the one my siblings were a part of.
I did that since I was about 17-18 until over a year ago... when I finally moved out on my own at 26. The black sheep of the family. My siblings all did it "right." Found good Christian husbands/wife... then moved out and started having families.
But then there was me. It destroyed my mom and I cannot even begin to describe the guilt trips. Not visiting enough, not talking enough etc.
I've lived at home my whole life until now and ONLY now did I start thinking for myself. I decided to step back from going to my church because I just didn't want to go anymore. I was so exhausted of subconsciously comparing myself to others. Not feeling good enough ever. I needed to start actually looking at things from my own perspective rather than just accepting everything that was being taught/ spoon fed/whatever. That's a whole other story though.
Also at this time I started dating a sweet man who's older than me who happens to be divorced. A HUGE no no to my family. My mom flat out would send me hurtful texts saying stuff like "I can't believe you would abandon your family. That man is taking you away from us." She's never met him. No one in my family has. And the one time I tried to reach out to my mom to see if she wanted to meet up for lunch to meet him she stated she wanted "nothing to do with that man. " So as you can imagine I have pretty bad trauma from those dark times.
Currently not much as changed but my mom has layed off a little more and I don't get the hurtful texts. That's another story.
So I hope that gives some background on me.
Here i am today. Stronger sure... but my fears are still there. Looking back, I see i grew up pretty much adopting my parents beliefs...and when I was going to the nondenominational church, I got baptized in the holy spirit. Felt I had to. Spoke in tongues. (I remember shaking from fear.) I ended up getting baptized too cause "I wanted to be more like Jesus." (But I was also scared if I didn't get baptized, I would go to hell. ) looking back a lot of my experiences were so fear based...
I feel like it pushed me away even more.
I barely talk to my siblings. I feel like they can be so uptight and if they knew the real me... they would be disappointed.
I started deleting my Christian friends off Facebook because the things they would post would cause me to feel nauseous. Cause I wasn't like them when I felt like I should be. I should be the good Christian girl.
I eventually deleted my Facebook too.
They probably look at me like I'm the lost sheep.
Anyway...I use to listen to a Christian band called Flyleaf/ Lacey Sturm and use to love their music. I started closing myself off from artists like that. I think because I felt like I don't deserve to listen to them since my beliefs are all over the place. (Anything that was Christian music gave me severe anxiety. Worship songs etc)
On my drive to work today, I had my Spotify on shuffle and this song by Lacey came on. I was listening to the lyrics and I felt the pit in my stomach grow wide. My throat felt like it was closing up with fear and anxiety. I realize she was singing about the end of the world.
"The time's not near, it's here A holy fear is here It's here
Quiet days we can hear this sound Heaven's throne in the earth come down The decree's out now Never been so loud Making way for the undoing Of the death in everything The decree's out now Never been so loud"
One of my deepest, most raw fear. I'm not ready to go you know ? As awful as 2020 has been, I'm finally starting to be in a place where I'm actually kind of enjoying being alive. And now it feels like it's going to be snuffed out because of everything happening. The political stuff, the Civil unrest, the riots etc. It really does feel like the end times. I want to curl up in a ball and cry and scream that it's not fair. How come only those who believe get to be ok? What about those of us that struggle with believing? Those of us that know there's more out there and that science is a real thing too. Those of us that don't believe everything in the Bible. (I don't believe God flooded the whole earth. Stuff like that.)
Its too much. Sometimes I wish i was never born. I'm sorry this is all over the place. I didn't know where else to go.
(By the way... yes I've gotten counseling in the past)
A very tired girl.

This month we have 5 Trump 2020 Coin Collection coins from Heads or Tales, so I will be awarding 1 each to the two Bad Luck Brians on the main pot missing by .01 on each side of it and 1 to the reverse winner, plus 2 (TWO!) to the main winner!!
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: I added the alternates list a while back to make it easier to keep the contest running if one or more players who register don't pay or drop out of the contest. I have been allowing people to register on it for up to 3 spots total, as long as their alternate spots and their spots in the current month are 3 or fewer.
This was available by Cash App or Zelle. In addition, the entries are fully-paid, even if the price goes up in the next month's contest or silver spikes and I have to increase the (future) cost of the alternate spots. Those who have already paid are locked in, regardless of price changes or spot changes afterward.
NONE OF THIS CHANGES! I have listened to you and received a LOT of feedback, so...BY POPULAR DEMAND I am going to also openly use it as a pre-registration for the following month's contest. I may allow anywhere up to 75 pre-registration entries (or less, at my sole discretion). All winners in the current month ALWAYS have priority and can ALWAYS get in to go for back-to-back wins so I'll have extra spots for them, and some of my regulars love to play every month, so this will give them a chance to register without being forced out or forgetting.
I love how well this contest goes and its popularity, and I want to make sure I'm also giving new players a chance to get in once in a while by pre-registering for the following month. 😊
Feel free to comment publicly or PM me privately, and I am happy to listen to YOU, the players, as I always try to do!
If you are mailing physical silver or anything else, keep in mind that right now, the USPS is riskier and more unreliable than at any other time in my lifetime. The ONLY time-guaranteed shipping is Priority Mail Express 1-day shipping, and ONLY Registered Mail allows you to insure bullion! I highly recommend that no matter what you send, you include some kind of tracking on it and provide me with that tracking when you ship!!
I CANNOT be responsible for any silver, cash, payments etc. that do not make it into my hands safely! Please make sure that anything you send me is in a trackable package or envelope so we can tell if it is delivered, at the very least, and preferably insured. PACK IT WELL! Make sure it is wrapped tightly on the inside AND outside, that there is no jingling or rattling, and nothing else that might alert the workers to the contents of the package.

2020.09.30 23:23 Danstenziano Trip Report- the ‘Super Sierra High Route’ (YHR + SHR + SoSHR)

Howdy sub, got in a pretty exciting trip this summer and thought I’d share it here. Basically the idea was to hike the whole length of the Sierra in a high route style thru-hike, by combining three routes: Andrew Skurka's Yosemite High Route, Steve Roper's Sierra High Route, and Alan Dixon/Don Wilson's Southern Sierra High Route.
Photo album: https://imgur.com/a/YCIo0vk
Itinerary: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vTgavxIhQQW8TGNfgREZaEdcAmI90ccfBEaVOyyTEmQ/edit?usp=sharing
Lighterpack: https://www.lighterpack.com/b7xw9k

Details of trip:
Starting Location/Date: Leavitt Meadows TH (Near Sonora Pass) 8/15/20
Ending Location/Date: Cottonwood Lakes TH (South of Whitney) 9/6/20
Trip length: 305 miles (including hike out over Bishop Pass for resupply)
Trip time: 24 days (including 2 zeros)
Probably somewhere in the realm of 60% of the route is off-trail with another 10-20% being on faint use trails or abandoned trails, although this is just an approximation. I was joined by my friends Armstrong and Mudslide who I met on the CDT last year.
We followed the Yosemite High Route from start to Blue Lake Pass (south of Tuolumne)
Then took the Sierra High Route from Blue Lake Pass to Dusy Basin
And Finished with a full hike of the Southern Sierra High Route from Dusy Basin to Cottonwood Lakes.
We resupplied twice, at Reds Meadow and in Bishop via Bishop Pass (no hitchhiking involved).

I will spare you guys the day-by-day and instead just talk about the character of the three routes and what I felt were the highlights, lowlights, and major challenges.
The first stretch from Leavitt Meadows to Reds Meadow was 118 miles and took us 7.5 days. The first 5.5 days were spent on the Yosemite High Route, with the first 22 miles or so being the on-trail approach to the northern terminus in Grace Meadow.
The Yosemite High Route had some of the strongest wilderness character of the entire route, even though the terrain was a little bit gentler, traversing very seldom visited and mostly off-trail areas of Yosemite. Highlights included lonely basins and canyons like Stubblefield Canyon and the basin which holds Rock Island Lake, as well as exciting and challenging passes like Matterhorn and Stanton Passes, both class 3. It also featured a small amount of easy forest and meadow walking, which I took as a welcome respite from the more rocky and desolate places.
Overall I would describe the terrain as very slabby; the rock quality was generally solid. If you’ve done any of the Roper route, you might expect to see lots of loose talus and scree, but there isn’t very much of that on the YHR (though we didn’t do the last 30 miles or so). Exceptions to this rule would include Russell Pass and Kuna Crest which were both pretty loose.
On Day 5 we left Skurka’s route for the original Sierra High Route near Blue Lake Pass. We ended up happy that we joined the Roper route here rather than further north at Tuolumne Meadows, because the YHR is much more exciting south of Tuolumne than the SHR. In particular the area around Russell Pass and Maclure Glacier is not to be missed.
After joining the SHR we had 2 more days of hiking before reaching our first resupply at Reds Meadow. This section of the SHR was phenomenal, including awesome places like North Glacier Pass, Iceberg Lake, and Minaret Lakes. The only challenging part was getting over North Glacier Pass, where the terrain through the course of the very long climb is complex and somewhat confusing.
Resting at Reds Meadow was nice, although everything was more expensive than I remembered, perhaps due to covid. There were quite a few JMT hikers there, only slightly less than I would expect in a normal year.
After leaving Reds, we were entirely on the SHR for 86 miles and 5.5 days before reaching Bishop, our next and final resupply. We hiked through two ‘chapters’ of Roper's route: Lake Country from Reds to Lake Italy, and Whitebark Country from Lake Italy to Dusy Basin.
Most of the 86 miles had a similar character: vast, lake dotted basins and alpine meadows punctuated by rocky and sometimes loose passes. My favorite area was the Bear Lakes Basin, south of Lake Italy. Just a bunch of gorgeous and very remote lakes and mountains and mostly smooth cross-country travel.
Pretty much all of the passes between Reds and Dusy Basin were chill except for one: Snow-Tongue Pass. Snow-Tongue has a reputation for being one of the big bad passes on the SHR and, for me at least, it lived up to the hype. We did the pass in the opposite direction that most do, so we ascended rather than descended the bad (north) side.
It’s basically loose scree and talus and other crud on a particularly steep dirt slope. You have to check any rocks you grab onto because most of them have the potential to slide. It is a bit hairy and demands focus and caution, but it’s certainly doable.
As a side note, on a separate trip I did one of Roper’s bypasses for Snow-Tongue, Alpine Col, and generally found it to be easier.
After Snow-Tongue, the high route links up with the JMT which leads to the Bishop Pass Trail, which we took out to South Lake where the town shuttle brought us into Bishop for resupply.
In Bishop we stayed at the town campground to make our resupply more covid-sensitive.
The remainder of our route was a complete thru of the Southern Sierra High Route: a little over 100 miles in 6.5 days including a side trip to Mt. Sill and the Mt. Baxter alternate. In my opinion, the SoSHR felt the least ‘wild’ out of the three routes, and featured the most on-trail hiking, but it also had several of the most challenging obstacles: Mt. Sill (side trip), Mt. Baxter (a more challenging alternate to the JMT section), and Mt. Whitney via the Mountaineer’s Route.
Mt. Sill lies just a few miles off the SoSHR and can be accessed from the Cirque Lake basin. It’s a classic 3rd class 14er, and R.J. Secor says that it has the best summit view of any peak in the Sierra. It’s a tough climb, but given how spectacular the view is, and how close it is to the route, I’d fully recommend it. Just make sure to budget enough time. Dixon (the guide author) says to budget 4-5 hours round trip, but it took our group at least 7 hours. The only class 3 sections are found near the summit, and they’re solid and not too bad if you take your time.
Summiting Mt. Baxter is part of a longer alternate route that allows you to bypass a huge chunk of JMT. Most of this alternate is chill but Baxter is definitely not, and it’s more difficult and time-consuming than the guide lets on. I’d place it on the hard side of class 2 with a touch of class 3 at the top, but the rock is loose, and the class 2 difficulty is pretty sustained for the entire climb and descent. Since we didn’t budget enough time, we found ourselves at the summit at sunset with a steep, loose talus descent awaiting us. We descended this crap for at least 90 minutes by headlamp before reaching relative safety. For me, this was the lowlight of the trip.
All that said, I’d still recommend the Baxter alt for its excellent views; just make sure you start the climb to Baxter earlier in the day.
The next major objective was Whitney, but there was a lot of cool stuff in between, such as Sixty Lakes Basin, and most notably the climb to Junction Pass on the Old JMT. This trail was decommissioned when they blasted out Forester Pass and has been semi-abandoned ever since. Near the top you’re up on a ridge that divides the basin that leads to Forester and Center Basin, which you just hiked up. It was really cool to look out over the two basins, and to see Forester from a different perspective.
The route remains very scenic and exciting from here all the way to Whitney, taking you through huge, desolate basins and the highest terrain of the route. My favorite place before reaching Whitney was the view of Tulainyo Lake from Russell-Carillon Col. At 12,818 ft, Tulainyo Lake is one of the highest lakes in North America. This massive lake, surrounded by serrated peaks, is perched in an airy granite basin and has no inlet or outlet.
Next came the Mountaineer’s Route, which was super fun and challenging. The last 2-300 feet are an awesome class 3 scramble on mostly solid rock. At one point I got a little over-confident which led to me getting off route and a subsequent sketchy maneuver to get back on track, but other than that it was enjoyable.
After Whitney there were still another 20 miles or so of fun stuff before reaching New Army Pass and the hike out.
Conditions: Mostly blue bird days. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s. One thunderstorm. Lots of smoke near the end. No bugs.

Review of the big stuff-
Quilt - EE revelation 20 (old 2016 version)
This quilt was borderline overkill, as our night temps rarely dipped below 40. It was nice for one night that hovered around freezing.
Shelter - SlingFin SplitWing tarp and a piece of polycryo
My whole shelter system was sub-10oz which was perfect given the difficulty of the hike and the lack of rain and bugs. The tarp did fine for the one thunderstorm I pitched in.
Pack - MLD Prophet
Ideal pack for this trip. Just big enough for minimal gear plus BV500 with 7.5 days food and just enough support for starting weight of 25lb. Frameless was nice for more mobility when scrambling.
Shoes - tried out two very different pairs, the La Sportiva Bushido II and the Altra King Mtn 2
The Bushidos are a great shoe for this kind of stuff if they fit you. They didn’t fit me that well but I tried to force it, which resulted in my pinky toes getting destroyed by the narrow toe box. The control, grip, and stiffness are great, though. Only performance downside is that the lugs are somewhat shallow and wear down kinda faster than I expected. They really shined on slab and solid scrambling and suffered a little on loose dirt.
The King Mtn have a similar stack height but that’s where the similarities end. The Altras are much more flexible and much sloppier on technical terrain. I was able to do loose class 2 and 3 in them but they are not ideal. The best part about the Kings is the outsole. The lugs are very aggressive which made them secure on loose dirt and scree. The rubber is also very grippy making them equally good on steep slab. They struggle with any kind of side-hilling and the flexibility and wide toe box are not good for using smaller footholds when scrambling.
Anyone have any suggestions for good high route shoes for those with platypus feet?

2020.09.19 13:05 bigbear0083 Wall Street Week Ahead for the trading week beginning September 21st, 2020

Good Saturday morning to all of you here on smallstreetbets. I hope everyone on this sub made out pretty nicely in the market this past week, and is ready for the new trading week ahead.
Here is everything you need to know to get you ready for the trading week beginning September 21st, 2020.

Markets are expected to be choppy, but dip buyers could be looking at tech favorites in week ahead - (Source)

After another week of losses, tech could be at the heart of a tug of war as dip buyers look for bargains in some of their favorite names and others see the group as still too frothy.
In the past week, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were both down about 0.6%, the third losing week. It was the S&P 500′s longest losing streak since October. Tech was broadly lower, with Amazon and Facebook both down 5% for the week. Information technology shares lost 1% but communications which includes Facebook and Google fell 2.3% for the week.
“I think every time you’ve had a significant pullback in the familiar names, that tends to draw in more money,” said Ed Keon, chief investment strategist at QMA. “You’ve had a little rotation toward value. That’s a healthy sign for the market. I don’t think that’s an unhealthy market even though stocks look pricey. Given how low interest rates are, stocks look like the only game in town.”
There are also a number of Fed speeches, but the most important will be the appearances by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell before three Congressional committees. At two of those, Tuesday and Thursday, Powell appears with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to discuss coronavirus aid.
Art Hogan, chief market strategist at National Securities, said he does not expect much from Powell after his comments following the Fed’s meeting this week, though the central bank chairman is likely to once more tell Congress fiscal stimulus is needed to help the economy recover.
Keon said it would be positive if there could be another stimulus deal but the market no longer expects it. “If we do get a deal, that would be really positive. I think at this point, there’s a little bit of a slowdown in news. We still have a ways to go before we get into earnings warnings season. We’re going to worry more about the presidential election and its aftermath,” said Keon.
Keon said investors are increasingly focused on the election and the potential for an uncertain outcome, as states deal with large amounts of mailed ballots for the first time. He said the concern is it could take weeks or months to determine the outcome if the race is close.
“It’s still six weeks to the election. We haven’t had the debates yet. That six weeks is a lifetime. Biden seems to be the favorite at this point, but I don’t think the market is betting on anything but higher volatility,” Keon said. President Donald Trump and former vice president Joe Biden hold their first debate Sept. 29.
“I think volatility is the norm, not the exception, until we get through the election,” said Hogan.
Investors have been hedging against extended volatility after the election. Patrick Kernan, who trades S&P options with Cardinal Capital, said the flow into S&P 500 options for January has been steady over the past several days. “The options markets are implying a contested election that could last until January,” he said. He said the market is not positioning around one candidate or other, just uncertainty.
Goldman Sachs strategists noted Friday that investors have pushed out some hedging further into November, though some investors appear to be betting on an outcome by Dec. 8, the date states with contested elections have to report.
There are also a few important reports on the economic calendar, including housing data on existing home sales Tuesday and new home sales Thursday. “The housing market has been solid and hopefully, we’ll get confirmation of that because people were upset by the decline in housing starts,” said Hogan.
Manufacturing PMI is released Wednesday and durable goods are reported Friday.

Election Charts You Need To See: Part 2

As we noted last week, the demand for election charts is off the charts (pun intended), so we are sharing some of our favorite election charts.
Without further ado, here are some more election charts you need to know as November 3 inches closer.
How stocks perform three months before the election has a stellar track record of predicting who will win in November. If stocks are higher, the incumbent party tends to win, while if stocks are lower, the incumbent party tends to lose. This indicator accurately predicted the winner 87% of the time (20 of 23) since the late 1920s.
Building on this, if President Donald Trump is going to win, right about now is when the S&P 500 Index should start to outperform. Of course, if it weakens, it could mean we will be looking at a President Joe Biden soon.
Speaking of presidents up for re-election, here’s what the S&P 500 historically has done during re-election years.
Lastly, here are two final charts that may help forecast the outcome.
If real per capita disposable income is higher, the incumbent president usually wins. Conversely, if wages are weak, that bodes well for someone new in the White House. Given real per capita disposable income is up more than 7% this year, it would suggest President Trump should take more than 70% of the votes. Of course, this is greatly skewed due to the CARES Act, so we’d put a major asterisk next to this one.
To sum up, Gallup poll approval ratings have done a nice job of predicting how many votes a president up for re-election might get. With a 42% Gallup approval rating currently, this comes out to 49% of the total votes for President Trump, which points to a close race.

Election Charts You Need To See: Part 3

One of the top requests we’ve received the past few weeks is for more charts on the US elections. We shared some of our favorite in Election Charts You Need to See: Part 1 and Part 2, and today’s the third blog in our series on this important event.
S&P 500 Index earnings are expected to jump close to 23% in 2021 according to FactSet, as the global economy recovers. Presidential nominee Joe Biden has made it very clear he will likely hike taxes, which could potentially cut 10 percentage points off earnings growth next year if implemented. If Biden wins, we would expect Chinese tariffs to be removed as well, which would offset some of that impact and according to our friends at Strategas Research Partners would suggest earnings growth of nearly 17%.
As shown in our LPL Chart of the Day, how the US dollar does ahead of the election has been a great indicator of which party might win in November. If the dollar is weak three months before the election, this bodes well for the incumbent party, while the incumbent party tends to lose if the dollar is strong. This signal has been right 7 of the past 8 elections.
As we saw back in March, when trouble hits, the US dollar tends to do well, as investors flock to the safety of the world’s reserve currency. When things are calm, the dollar tends to weaken, which favors riskier assets. So far, the dollar is slightly lower, which would suggest a potential win for President Donald Trump.
Also, the size of the tax increase proposed by Joe Biden as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) would be one of the largest ever and rival President Lyndon B. Johnson’s (LBJ) tax increases in the late 1960s. Let’s remember though, if there’s a split Congress, the chances of the full tax plan being implemented is quite slim. Additionally, a weaker economy would also reduce the chances of a large tax hike.

Seasonal Volatility Just Getting Started

The market's day-to-day volatility has picked up in September after experiencing more stable trading action during the summer months. This is not out of the ordinary. Historically, the most volatile time of the year for stocks has been between September and early November. You can see this in the chart below that shows the average absolute daily percentage change for each trading day of the year beginning on the first trading day of January through the last trading day of December. As shown, daily volatility is very consistent around the +/-0.70% level over the first eight months of the year, but then it starts to pick up beginning in September until it reaches a peak during the first week or two of November. From there, the holiday season takes over and daily volatility plummets right through the end of the year. As shown in the chart, unfortunately we've still got a ways to go to get to the top of the volatility mountain, so make sure you've got your climbing gear ready for the next six to eight weeks!

Keeping Tabs On High Frequency Growth

The week ended September 11th showed a sharp decline in our index of weekly GDP versus the year before. As shown, our index can be quite volatile, but it does do a decent job tracking the general trajectory of GDP. Since peaking at an implied growth rate of +0.9% YoY on July 10th, our index has slid to -2% YoY, the lowest reading since mid-June.
Taking a look at another tracker of short-term economic growth, below we show Weekly Economic Index data updated by the New York Fed each week. After decelerating sequentially YoY for the week ended September 4th, the WEI reported sequential YoY growth slower once again in the week ended September 11th. We also show what each high frequency tracker implies about quarterly growth. As shown, our tracker has consistently implied a higher quarterly growth rate than the Weekly Economic Index, and official data for the last two quarters. That said, Q3 is tracking at least 20%, with upside to the high-20s as the US continues to rebound from COVID. This post was originally published in our post-market macro report -- The Closer -- last night.

Sell(ing) Rosh Hashanah, Buy Yom Kippur

As the High Holidays approach you may remember the old saying on the Street, “Sell Rosh Hashanah, Buy Yom Kippur.” It gets tossed around every autumn when the “high holidays” are on the minds of traders as many of their Jewish colleagues take off to observe the Jewish New Year and Day of Atonement.
The basis for this, “Sell Rosh Hashanah, Buy Yom Kippur,” pattern is that with many traders and investors busy with religious observance and family, positions are closed out and volume fades creating a buying vacuum. Even in the age of algorithmic, computer, and high frequency trading these seasonal patterns persist as humans still need to turn the machines on and off and feed them money or take it away – and these algorithms and trading programs are written by people so the human influence is still there.
Holiday seasonality around official market holidays is something we pay close attention to (page 100 Stock Trader’s Almanac). Actual stats on the most observed Hebrew holidays have been compiled in the table here. We present the data back to 1971 and when the holiday falls on a weekend the prior market close is used. It’s no coincidence that Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur fall in September and/or October, two dangerous and sometimes opportune months.
Perhaps it’s Talmudic wisdom but, selling stocks before the eight-day span of the high holidays has avoided many declines, especially during uncertain times. While being long Yom Kippur to Passover has produced 59% more advances, half as many losses and average gains of 6.7%.
This year the high holidays commence on Friday eve, September 18, and end Monday September 28 with Yom Kippur just before Octoberphobia. The current news flow already has folks selling ahead of the Jewish High Holidays, quite possibly setting up the market for further declines.

S&P 500 down 24 of 30 during week after September options expiration, average loss 0.95%

The week after September options expiration week, next week, has a dreadful history of declines most notably since 1990. The week after September options expiration week has been a nearly constant source of pain with only a few meaningful exceptions over the past 30 years. Substantial and across the board gains have occurred just four times: 1998, 2001, 2010 and 2016 while many more weeks were hit with sizable losses.
Full stats are in the following sea-of-red table. Average losses since 1990 are even worse; DJIA –1.01%, S&P 500 –0.95%, NASDAQ –0.95% and a sizable –1.42% for Russell 2000. End-of-Q3 portfolio restructuring is the most likely explanation for this trend as managers trim summer holdings and position for the fourth quarter.

2020.09.18 23:41 bigbear0083 Wall Street Week Ahead for the trading week beginning September 21st, 2020

Good Friday evening to all of you here on StockMarket.

LETS GET STARTED
Question 1: Favorite Baseball Player and Why
Dylan
Growing up every day with Chipper and Andruw Jones in the Braves lineup for the first like 15-20 years of my life was special, Chipper in particular. Acuna is catching up fast, though.
I asked for one player though, not your entire Barves lifestory
Bnavis
Jake Arrieta, his rise really mirrored the cubs, and that 2015 season was incredible.
Arrieta can pound a bag of dicks for being absolute shit
Ruairi
Barry Bonds. He was the greatest hitter of all-time and it isn't even up for discussion. He was a hall of famer before the "alleged" steroid use and became the greatest player of all-time after. The man would get one pitch in the strike zone to hit every night and he would hit it for a home run everytime. No batter has ever been feared the way Barry was feared, not even close. Everyone can say they hate Barry Bonds and don't respect him or whatever crap they want to spew out, but the truth is, when he came up to bat, literally everyone stopped what they were doing to see what he would do, and then when he'd hit a massive home run, everyone would be in awe of his insane abilities.
Barry Bonds is lowkey one of my favorite players, this is valid reasoning.
Polelover
David Ortiz. Self-explanatory.
Fuck the Red Sox
Bgro
Jason Kendall bc he was a leadoff catcher and gritty as hell. He refused to ever sit out a game even though he played such a demanding position.
Kendall was one of my favorite Pirates to watch, glad to see someone else is a big Kendall fan
Jiggy
matt kemp, restored my love of the game. in his prime he was incredible and he seemed to be having a blast playing. oh and i'm hyper vain and he dated rhianna while being the best player in the sport and i think that's cool as fuck.
Kemp should have won MVP over Braun. Fuck Ryan Braun
Rose
Frank Thomas? Frank Thomas is just a mythical figure of childhood for me. The 2006 A's were an extremely formative team for my baseball fandom and Frank Thomas was probably the first time a player I was already aware of outside of the A's became relevant to the A's, and having him play for Oakland felt like being blessed by a god. Objectively or statistically there are more dominant hitters than Frank Thomas in history but in my mind he's the most impeccable hitter of all time.
I forgot that Big Hurt was an A. Thomas was a fun player to watch
Cory
Rickey Henderson. Unbelievable talent with a rare skillset, combined with a cool "hometown hero" story, long career, endless mythology and great stories.
Yankees Legend Rickey Henderson
Wharble
Vladimir Guerrero for teaching me that strike zones are merely suggestions
It's a shame his son took that lesson the opposite way
Iama
Mariano Rivera, just a great feeling when he would come into the game and lock it down. ice cold blood in the veins, and a great team player and ambassador for the game.
There will never be another as good as Mo when it comes to locking down a game

probably driving to a city of 30k people in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, getting piss drunk and doing Too Much Molly for one person. we did all this shit and it's like 1:30, walk to a dominos and wait outside for our shit. all of a sudden this dude comes up to us and asks us if we were the ones that catcalled his gf (we were not) to which one of my buddies said "nah but i wish i would've." dude gets in his truck and chases us down streets of moose jaw saskatchewan for thirty minutes as we run for our lives while smoking grape flavored cigarillos. we get separated, i lose my phone, sleep on a merry-go-round in a park in october (so like it's 25 degrees at best) and walk to a starbucks to find a stranger that'll let me use their laptop to contact my friends bc i don't know their numbers, forgot my facebook password, forgot my gmail password to reset it, end up on this middle aged man's 15 year old dell laptop for forty minutes trying to figure out how to contact my friends while still fucked up, eventually a dude i partied with happened to walk past and i ran outside and got him to call dan, dan picks me up and we drive back home and eat pizza hut
Holy shit

Oh boy strap in for this one. So it's freshman year of college. I live in the dorms. I'm single and have next to no experience with girls/parties. It's Halloweekend (the weekend of Halloween so very many parties at SDSU). Unfortunately, I was not in a frat so I was not allowed in any frat parties, so I had to party in the dorm. Anyway. My roommate went to his gf football game (she was a cheerleader for a community college 30 minutes away) so I was just hanging out in my room with the door open to talk with anyone from my floor that wanted to hang. This girl from the floor below me (that I had just met a few days ago and showed off my baseball knowledge to in the study room) walks by my room and stops. She says hi and comes in and I'm talking with her. She has a bottle of cranberry juice and vodka and offers me some. Obviously, I accept. She says she has a full bottle of vodka in on her floor and she'll bring it up to party with me. A really attractive girl wants to hangout with me on Halloween while she is dressed up and wants to get me drunk? Hell yea! So she goes down to her floor and I wait for her to come back. But then about 20 minutes have gone by and she has not come back, leaving me to believe she had bailed :(. So I go across the hall to my friends room to drink and play super smash bros. About an hour or two goes by and I've had some shots just vibin on the floor. A few of the girls who went out to a party had come back and I was hanging out with them. Then the girl from the floor below came back with friends and was trashed. She was in our study lounge puking in the trash so I was in there taking care of her and helping her out. I was just rubbing her back and getting her water while holding her hair. There was a weird dude on our floor who was into her also trying to help but it was super weird and uncomfortable with him there because well as I said he was weird and creepy. After an hour, one of my other friends said Chase and Diego were letting people in their room (now these kids didn't talk much to anyone, except Chase. Me and him were boys). So I went over to their room to see what was poppin' because this was a moment of a lifetime. Chase was a little drunk but Diego was smashed and so was his gf. Total in the room it was me, Chase, Diego, his gf, a dude name Kayvon, and two other girls, Leah and Katie. I was just hanging out talking with everyone and then the three girls were talking about french kissing. Leah hadn't ever frenched so the other girls wanted to show her how. So they passed each other around like a bong just frenching it up. I was dumbfounded. This is what college is??? I'd seen videos but I didn't think they were real. Diego was getting super into his gf making out with these two other girls, kinda hyping them up. Once they had stopped frenching, Katie and Leah left the room. Diego started to get the spins and tried to lay down on his bed. Then he vomited on himself. Me, already experienced with vomit in the evening, tried to help him out and get him up and to the bathroom or at least the trashcan. I did what I could but then his gf was acting all crazy and yelling at me to get out of the room, so I did. I returned to the cute drunk girl on the couch, as I told her I would be gone for just a few minutes (it was really about 20-30). She was super excited to see me again. At that point, she asked me to watch the World Series with her, as the Mets and Royals were going to play Game 5 (I believe) on the Sunday (the next day). I told her of course I would and that I'd be watching in that very study lounge. After a little while longer, I told her she needed to go to bed so I walked her down to her room while the weird creepy dude followed us. I wasn't going to let him walk her to her room because frankly I didn't trust the dude. Got her to her room, said good night, and that was the end of that. I went back to my room and told my roommate and his gf about the eventful night I had. Jumping back to earlier in the story, cute girl said she had returned to my room about 30 minutes later but she couldn't get the vodka from her floor because some dudes had taken it. I had left my room at that point so she ended up going out to the party instead since I wasn't there. I did end up dating that girl for a decent amount of time, but that's for a different survey.

Frosh year. My roommates and I had a couple dorm floor mates who either only have weekday meal plans, or no meal plan at all. So we started casually stealing them some non-perishable goods to last them over the weekend. Through natural progression, this slowly turned into us creating an entire klepto organization that eventually fed most of our dorm house. We had a few tricks. One was bringing sports bags in with us - they would make you check backpacks at the door, but since sports bags might have expensive equipment, they let you take them in. So we'd just stuff them full of gallon bags of cereal, bagels, etc. Our dining hall had a patio area, where at night, you could see in from the outside, but not vice versa. We would load up our plates with one type of food, grab a gallon or two of milk, a tray of cookies, etc., saunter out to the patio, bag/pack everything up, and then toss it over the railing to our Outside Man down below, who would then take it back. At the end of the year, the dining hall had a program where you could return anything you "walked off accidentally" with with no repercussions, so we went to collect and tally any cups/bowls/plates/silverware we'd liberated, and found ourselves with two full boxes of stuff. Fearing *some* sort of repercussions from the sheer volume of stuff, we waited until the DH was closed one night, climbed over the railing, and left the boxes on a patio table.
This is amazing

Ruairi
Well, since my brother and I played baseball year round from elementary school through high school, we didn't take many/any vacations. So I will have to say the only real vacation I've taken is my trip to Texas a few weeks ago. It was amazing getting to see my best friend with our other best friend. Shot real guns for the first time. Went to the beach a couple of times and the water was so warm, it was amazing. Had Texas BBQ and it was to die for. It was super cool being in a somewhat small town since I've grown up in San Diego/Temecula for my whole life and haven't lived in a farm-like town. It was a super cool experience and I would easily risk getting coronavirus to do it again.
Thats pretty dope, small towns are always fun to go to
Rose
my favorite 'vacation' ever was actually recent. i dogsit for my sister sometimes when she goes somewhere and get to spend a week or so getting paid to relax at her apartment in san francisco with her dog and drinking and eating good food. it's nice because it's not touristy, i'm not staying at a hotel or anything, it's more like dipping my toes into living in a big city for a week or two and then getting to return to my normal life afterwards. my 'favorite vacation' was when i was there for over a week last year just chilling with no responsibilities other than taking care of her dog
The best vacations are the ones where you do absolutely nothing

Ring Name: The Notorious Ruairious. Gimmick: I am a Northern Irishman who uses a wicked head butt to stun and knock out opponents. I have swagger, but am very humble. I throw off my opponents by complimenting their bodies rather than trash talking them. Finisher: I get the opponent on the ground and do a jig over them, as my kicks knock them unconscious.
This is a dope gimmick, would likely book you to face Sheamus for 3 months before going for the WWE Title.
Rose
Ring name is Anne Phibian, my finisher is a Frog Splash and my gimmick is that i am extremely into frogs and i brutally beat down opponents and share Frog Facts with the audience on the mic while they are incapacitated
Instant top heel in the Women's division. Would book you to face Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania for the Women's Title.
Cory
The Mortician (Cory *Graves*). My gimmick would be crawling my up through the bottom of the ring to start each match. We would then have to wait for the mat to be repaired before beginning the match. Finisher: The Scalpel - I run back and forth between the ropes a few times, gaining momentum, eventually bouncing off, going into a horizontal pencil dive motion, and kicking my opponent square in the chest.
I can see some good feuds between you and The Fiend Bray Wyatt. Could be a good wrestlemania match.

I dig it. Will book you as a main eventer before having you job to Roman Reigns and then banish you to the midcard forever
Bgro
My ring name is "El Ratoncito Miguel" which translates to "The Little Rat, Miguel". My gimmick is that I always pretend I'm not actually there to fight, I'm just lost and looking for directions. I insist way beyond a humorous amount of time that I'm really not a wrestler and you must have me mistaken and how do you get to Union Street. Then, when everyone's going home and the lights are turned off, that's when I attack. My finisher is called Open-Face Slap, where I run to one side of the ring and then charge full speed at you and open face slap you.

i don't believe in my ability to survive alone in an apocalyptic scenario so i would determine if i'm reasonably close to a costco. if i think i'm close enough i believe a society of about 200-300 people could survive in a barricaded costco for several months at least without issue, and i will try to get a footing there. if i can't make it to something like that i will seek out the strongest most prepared looking person in my neighborhood and pray they show mercy.

Thats fucking awesome
Ruairi
Oh man this is a tough one. There are two that stand out in my mind, but I'm not sure which one to go with. I will tell another story about the cute girl I mentioned earlier in this survey. So this was a few months later (4 or 5). We started dating shortly after that Halloween night for the record. We spent pretty much everyday together since we lived just a floor apart and quickly became best friends. Anyway, it was a few months later and we were in her room. It was a Friday and I didn't have class until 1 on Fridays. We were making out on her bed and at one point she stopped and just looked at me. She started crying and I was confused so I asked her what was wrong. Through a cracked voice she says "I love you." It was the first time anyone had ever told me they loved me in that way and I had been thinking about telling her that I felt the same way leading up to this day but was too scared to. When she said it, I was then able to say it, which surprised her because I wasn't a very open person back then. It's one of the best feelings to have someone you love tell you that they love you back. And even though we aren't together anymore, the memory is still a good one for me, because it reminds me that I can be loved and I can feel love for someone, even in times when those things don't seem possible.
This brought a tear to my eye my dude
Rose
it feels slightly underwhelming to call it my happiest memory because it didn't last in the end but i think the most undeniably happy thing i can think of is entering my first real romantic relationship as a teenager. a lot of that time of my life i was fighting with depression and a genuine and significant romantic relationship was a realization that i could be deserving of love from other people and that i could connect and relate to another person in ways i was afraid i wasn't capable of.
This fucking hit me hard because I've been there
Cory
Camping with my brother and parents. Usually our trips involve some amount of shouting and fighting, even the really good ones. But this trip, we just spent three wonderful days in the wilderness, enjoying nature, eating good campfire foods, laughing and playing board games. Some catchphrases were spawned while playing those games that my family still quotes to this day.
That's awesome, I'd give anything to have that kind of time with my family again
Dylan
I went to a concert with a friend of mine that had just left the company we had worked for. She was in a relationship but she asked me to go with her because she had an extra ticket. It was a great time, really fun, great vibes. Didn't realize at the time that would be the person I'd be living with about 3-4 years later. Don't know if it's my happiest memory but it makes me really happy, know what I mean?
Thats awesome dude
Bgro
Either various moments on my solo bike trip across the country where I just felt total tranquility and satisfaction near the end of my trip OR this one time when my first nephew was like one and I was his favorite person and I took him out for a walk. He was distracted and I walked a little ahead of him and when he turned and noticed me a little further away, we made eye contact, he grinned a wide smile and then ran to me arms wide open for a hug. Kids do that kind of stuff all the time to people they know and trust but I've never felt such pure unadulterated love as I have from that kid in that moment. There is no artifice or conditionality in that sort of love. It felt good to be the cause of that someone else's sheer joy and seeing his face light up when he saw me, thats a memory that always brings me happiness.

One of the pushers and movers of the ATX mountain bike scene.
After I posted the last two pieces Austin, Texas & Mountain Biking, and Austin, Texas & Mountain Biking — Community. People have reached out to me, recommending me to connect with Seth. I did have the opportunity to learn more things from him. Interviewing Seth made me understand more of Austin’s MTB scene. Seth is one of the icons that contributes to the growth of the scene in a little/big city, Austin, Texas. I added you on Facebook because your name seems to be popping up on places I looked for Austin mountain biking. What is your story? — My Name is Seth Buckner, 34 years old; I’ve worked at Apple Corporate as my full-time career since 2011.
How long have you been around in Austin? — Born and raised in north Austin, TX, my entire life.
What got you into gravity bikes? — Well, the long story.
I have tons of childhood memories riding mountain bikes as a young kid. Most memorably, in the super rocky dry creek beds in a greenbelt behind a house grew up in, riding in the rain and thunderstorms through the neighborhood on a silver hardtail that said “alloyminium” on the side. I raced BMX (at the original Capitol City BMX location off FM620 in the late ’90s) until I was about 13. After that was involved in other sports (skateboarding and competitive NPPL paintball) for most of my adolescent years. I got re-introduced to biking/mountain biking after getting a DUI when I was 19 years old in 2006. I lost my driver’s license for a year and bought a Kona Hardtail that was way too small for me from the pawnshop in a ghetto part of town.
I started getting into mountain biking and urban assault free ride type of stuff. The first actual mountain bike I ever built was a 2007 Kona stinky deluxe 26 inch Freeride bike off of wheelworld.com with a frame and a build kit; that was my full-time trail bike. Like a 42-pound nine-speed free ride bike in the Texas summer heat. But I like big hit type stuff, and I’m glad I was dumb enough to start on a rig like that. Haha.
Over the years, I slowly progressed as a mountain biker and got into downhill parks. 2008–2009ish at Trestle Winter Park, CO was my first ever DH park trip; I fell in love with that and the mountains. I eventually started going to local enduro races also.
Seth, I’ve had people tell me that you have pushed the limits of mountain biking in Austin. How is this so? — I will call myself a very dedicated and inclined (pun intended) trail builder who wants to stamp my mark on my Austin hometown, and Texas state. With gnarly trails that I love to ride for myself and the mountain biking community. I have grown to be super passionate about trail building. I built pretty much the entire cat mountain trail system over the last five years, built a full 10 stage enduro specific trail system at Bandera bike park in 2019, and now building trails at camp eagle. Where my race timing company Victory Racing — u/victoryracingevents just had a two day, eight staged shuttle supported enduro race last weekend, and that was incredible!
What drives you the most? — Mountain bike life is easy to love. Traveling places bring in the greatest form of outdoors — the mountains! I love to build trails. And shred them with my friends and also blow outta-towner people away with Austin mountain biking. Texas shredding is the real deal!
From start to finish, I get to be creative out in the woods and use that as a huge outlet for me, and then I get to have tons of fun riding those trails I built with my dog and my friends.
I quit drinking altogether in January of 2017. With the trail building being such an outlet, it was one of the easiest, non-wavering things I’ve ever done as far as a big lifestyle change. I don’t think at all I would’ve done it as well without all the trail building to occupy me. It also helped me get better as a rider.
What gets you to go out on the land with a chainsaw, tools, and a few friends? — Trail building is super meditative and therapeutic for me. You being out there in the woods either alone, with your dog or with your friends. Fresh air, away from all the city stuff, exercise, and you get to be creative designing and building trail. It’s just like a bunch of grown men acting like kids out in the woods but with power tools and more focused visions.
Tell me about 512 Freeride and your involvement? — I helped manage and promote the free ride 512 mountain biking club and help to get people into that style of mountain biking. Urban assault, freeride, downhill parks, Red Bull Rampage watch events, dig and ride events. FR512 is Still in existence, and there’s an awesome mountain bike club with a good group of people running it! The Rocky Hill Ranch Freeride 512 location is unique, and I would recommend anybody to check them out.
What about Victory Racing — Victory Racing was born in early 2019 when we were gaining momentum building Bandera Bike Park. The business/property owner that I was building the trails for wanted to start having races there. We came to a loan agreement, and I purchased a complete SportIdent active timing system. Capable of 8 stages and 200 racers per day in its current configuration and beacon/timing chip count. I started Victory Racing Company and Race Team.
What I believe makes Victory Racing unique is that we create the trails/venues where we are hosting the races. We are the first ever to provide full shuttle supported events (Bandera Race #2 & 2020 Shred Eagle @ Camp Eagle). Our events generally have more stages per day than other promoter’s events (all except one have been eight stages per day vs. others’ 4–5 stages max per day). Victory Racing also tends to race higher-level-difficulty race stages. They are not always the most beginner-friendly compared to other Enduro promoters in the state of Texas. There is a Risk vs. Reward balance when choosing to race higher-level stages with potentially higher consequences. Still, our events have all been great successes with extremely low incidences with rider safety. They seem to be providing the ultimate Texas enduro racing experience based on participant and racer feedback.
Dude, what’s going on at Cat Mtn.? — Oh man! Cat Mtn. is my pride and joy, my happy place. What I am most proud of In my life to date. It also has a cool story behind it, and I’d love to tell you.
About 11–12ish years ago, a couple of local Austin guys (who now all live in Angel Fire, NM at one of the best DH parks in the USA) pioneered and built just a small few of like 2–3 rowdy DH bandit trails with some really-super-sketchy wooden works of trail art big hit features in the woods, at cat mountain. A 108-acre wooden canyon nestled right in the middle of a very nice neighborhood in the hills of northwest Austin. Me, Wesley Crow, Brandon Goodman, and others, used to go out there and hit these wooden ladder drops and some single-hit drops and stuff like that.
Years went by, the pioneer guys all moved out of Texas (to Angelfire, NM, where they still reside), the woods took back the trails, and the wooden features rotted. Cat mtn. just went back to a patch of woods.
I went to buy a set of brakes and a bleed kit from a guy on craigslist. The dude would only talk to me through email and wouldn’t give me his phone number, but gave me his home address to meet him there at 6:30 pm one day. I drive there, park in front of his house for like an hour. The guy no shows, and I leave. No responses to email, either. I went onto the local mob forum board and posted about how flaky craigslist people are, even the sellers, and told me a story about the brakes. I just told you.
The seller saw that post and replied, apologized, and delivered the brakes. That’s the first time I ever met the guy.
A year or two goes by, and the same guy I got the brakes from posts on the forum board that he purchased the entire Cat Mtn property…!!!!! I’m shocked! I messaged him and told him the background of Cat mtn. and that we used to ride there. I explained I was part if FR512 and would love to bring the place back to life. And to keep the rest short and sweet, he gave me the keys to the kingdom, and here we are today. The free ride 512 club started to resurrect the place as a group effort. Ultimately it became mainly my thing, and I have been digging and running the trail system for close to 5 years now.
Its meant to be a very advanced trail system, not beginner-friendly. I take advantage of the super steep, rocky, and raw terrain there. My opportunity to build advanced wood features to build my favorite kind of trails I like to ride in places like New Mexico and Colorado. A trail that inspires a lot of my work is Upper Chillin’ double black at Angelfire Bike Park.
It will continue to create new lines there and keep pushing to keep it the raddest place in the state. Cat Mtn Invitational Enduro #2 is happening there Later this year.
Do you love your pup, don’t you? Does the pup run with you on the trails? — My boy Mack. Best trail dog ever :) he’s now almost 7, black lab & slight pitbull mix. He has been on the trails riding and building with me since he was four months old. He is getting into his more mature years now but is still super active; I’m just a lot more careful with the heat and running him on rides like we did when he was younger. He loves to hang out while we dig and lay in the cool dirt as we dig it up.
Is there anything you want to add or shout out on this piece, Seth? — Thank you, everyone, who has supported me and my efforts within Texas trail building and race promotion. Or just being riding buddies or a friend, thank you, everyone, who has come out to help dig. Your donations to trail building, racing my events and Promoting Victory Racing.
The biggest shout out to the most help of trail building, being my long time bike trip homies, my all-around right-hand bros, and the biggest supporters have been Alan Paryzek and Jason Kennedy. Yall have been there for me the longest and have been such huge help, and I could’ve have done it all without yall! Everyone else yall know who yall are!
Thanks again, and stay tuned for more from Seth Buckner and Victory Racing.

Ⓙ Rebrand: Resilience (2nd to 9th Sep, 2020) A detailed track choice rationale...

  • Title: Resilience
  • Length: 58 min
  • Number of (full length) tracks: 13
  • Desc: Resilience is the ability to mentally/emotionally cope with a crisis/loss or to return to pre-crisis status quickly. RIP Freeda.
So, this seems like it is just becoming a glorified music diary entry now as man’s out here putting his personality on the internet for the fam. You feel me? “We got us and that helps”... anyway. This week, I’m going to do what I always do, which is release a small list (1 hour long) of all the tracks I want to listen to for the coming week, based on the previous week's analytics of my own music enjoyments and routines. This is an emotional week for me and the fam, so I hope you can enjoy the ride out of this transition, as we say goodbye to a dear pet-friend “Freeda” who died on the release date of this week's playlist. The album art this week is also dedicated to her, because I am choosing not to spend hours of work on a fancy artwork, due to other factors, but I think it’s fitting, regardless.
The following is a list in order and a brief description of choice rationale for this week’s tracks:
Balance - Satorio: The introduction track for this week is chosen to set a mood and “centre” one's self. <3
Shield - WYS: The “shield” track serves as that “a shield” to make the people who can't get through it miss out on the rest (it’s not a very interesting song, early on) but if you get past it, you can get into the picks which have been a sentimental choice for me this week. I rely on my love for music and its integration into my routines as well as letting it influence my emotional state, therefore I can use it as a tool. It can have a lot of influence in that way (for me anyway) and it’s something I love to control and use to my advantage. I try to get creative with it in my own way, I guess that’s why man’s out here like this anyway, right. So yeah, this song is not the best, but that’s why it’s here. If you have access to decent subs, or controlled speakers, this one really has a satisfying sub base melody to it, and it did have some thought put into its production.
Theme From Schindler’s List - John Williams: I love John Williams, I always have, but after getting re-introduced to listening to some old Star Wars OST’s this past week, I have also decided to use this opportunity to show off one of my most loved tracks on his release. This is one of those pieces that creates a frisson of emotion, a sudden strong feeling of excitement or fear; a thrill. I really love the way this track flows from a subdued, mellow and sorrow influence, then moves to an invigorating and uplifting crescendo while only really changing part of the melody and emphasising a different octave in different parts of the strings sections. There are lots of complexities in this track and I’m sure I’ll continue to enjoy it in many different ways for years to come. Such a gem, thanks JW.
Resilient - Rising Appalachia: This track has been in my mind for several days prior to posting this playlist as I prepared mentally for the tasks of both emotionally dealing with the loss of our family pet dog: Fredda and being a support for my mother and family, which are themes that are really scattered through this week's playlist, or at least the first two thirds of it.
I Am a Rock - Simon & Garfunkel: “Simo and da Funk” as I like to call them, have always been a good duo to turn to for some comforting, familiar music, but also has some progress focused influence and I like the influence of this track followed by the next Paul Simon track.
50 Ways to Leave Your Lover - Paul Simon: Now we get Simo on his lonesome, bangin’ out 50 ways… This is basically a dance song for me, I love the music, but it also has such a nice story in it about friends getting real and contemplating the infinite (not just 50) ways you can leave (and let go of) your lover; which I thought was a nice choice and important to keep in mind for times of grief. We all choose our own paths to a certain degree, but it’s certainly nice to be reminded of the opportunities we have afforded to us sometimes.
Breathing In And Out - Nat Barsch: A lovely, mellow, one and a half minute tracks that I think suits the transition into a different segment. It’s also a track that can (and does, personally) facilitate Wim Hof focused breathing sessions, or serves as a little reminder to pay attention to my breathing, which I will use as a conscious tool during the day. The rest of the album “Forever, And No Time At All” is all on the same wavelength as this track if you fancy finishing the rest of the playlist another time (as it does change musically), but let's be real, there’s no shortage of this genre to choose from and I’m down with the jams.... Although, the vibes stay relatively positive hence forth (at least for the next track, and the last four), here on out we get back into more of a usual lineup of tracks for Rebrands of late.
Thoughts & Prayers - Manga Saint Hilare, Novelist: Bless, a dear friend mentioned their fondness for this track at a time when I really benefited from it also. It really is a good track and for that I am re-submitting it both in another weeks Rebrand and double posting it in two segments for the Archive (“UK Grime” and now also in “Hip Hop & Rap”) which will accommodate those who may not dig listening to specific genres of hip hop/rap.
Cancel It! - Neil Hamburger: I don’t think anyone knows how much I love this track actually… Objectively it’s the shittest, most offensive and interrupting thing to put in a playlist, but I think that’s hilarious. I have used this track since April this year in a personal playlist as an introduction (which I take pretty seriously). To me in this context of the playlist and the proceeding tracks, I’m using it to project out out with no regard for what other people think, and even though the man on the phone is rude, I am too at times, whether I mean to be or not, and this 24 seconds in an hour represents that. 24 seconds of radical, obtrusive interruption to what was a lovely playlist, I love it. It subtly represents my announcement that the rest of the playlist is business as usual.
My House - Joe Jackson: After the trainwreck of Neil Hamburger, we get to listen to Joe’s “terrible” voice (I know this is subjective, but surely we can agree). While I don’t listen to JJ that often, I have always found some enjoyment in jamming out to this one. Joe Jackson (not Michael Jackson's dad by the way) has been a family favourite and my Pop also blasted it non stop, so I think dealing with death currently has driven me to want to listen to this more as well, bringing up some nice feelings of connecting in ways to those we have loved and lost. They still give back to us, and remain influential, just like Freedles will. Riparoonie.
Love Inc - Booka Shade: <3 This is the track I would have opened the whole playlist with if I was in a different mood when making the final release order decision. I had planned to really feature this song by putting it first, but honestly, I think it fits better down here this week and I still want to give it a big mention as a favourite. It's interesting to me, the way it's mixed particularly at the beginning. I actually feel as if the producers have mixed it quietly so that people pay attention to it right at the beginning, the whole track is brought in slowly raising master volume, then when the beat starts coming in it's significantly louder in the mix (in comparison to the intro of the song and sample used) which I think either is an anaesthetic choice to get people to listen to their particular song louder, or they have chosen to make that introduction quiet so that people listen in if they already have their systems volume set to loud and are paying attention. Whatever volume people are listening to at the time, it is marketed to them both effectively,, having positive outcomes engaging listeners at any volume, which is something I’m not sure a lot of people think about when mastering. Very smart choice to a track beginning in my opinion and hence, I would have opened the playlist with it, but here it is anyway fam, opening up the House and Techno segments for the final 4 tracks either way.
You Are a Wonder - Newman (I Love) Remix: Keeping the love flowing, this killer dance track has intricate grooves and fronts a phenomenal sound, melody and dance vibe that I can’t get enough of.
Crisis - Sondrio: An old favourite; a straight up techno track with a real classic feel. It’s a stylish banger, but it has this eerie synth all over it…. See what you think, but I love it. Thanks to Ben for this recommendation to me last year, it turns out that it comes up handy in a “crisis”...
Hella feat. Joy Tyson - Zigan Aldi, Joy Tyson: Another hard ethnotronica, organic house track with a nice message. It makes me realise how much I enjoy testing my own resilience by receiving “pressure” (in whatever way/shape/form that may be) on the system I have built (physical/mental health). I work well under pressure. “I need the pressure pushing down”... As I now sign off. Peace lovely crew. Much love. Less than three "<3"

2020.08.30 15:07 TakePrecaution01 I've noticed my life is slowly going down.

TL;DR
My father recently kicked out a family friend. This family friend has been there for him since they were 16. The family friend is like an uncle, so I started referring him as that.
My uncle was working, and my father called him. Uncle didn't pick, so my father called him 6 more times. My father then called him, using a blocked number. Uncle picked up, and my father was bullshit. They were swearing at each other, and everything. It was bad.
Now my uncle is living in his car because he's a low income type of person. He has two kids, and doesn't see any of them.
I walked up to his car, when he was just getting up. I wave to him, and look in the passenger of the car. There's this nasty girl in there, dirty, oily. It brought tears to my eyes. I don't want to see him like this.

I finally got a job. And my step mom takes my money. My current year to date is over $2100. I have nothing.
There's this girl I was chasing at work. We both admitted we liked each other. We'd stay up on the phone till three in the morning. We had a date planned. I called her two hours before the date, to see if we were still on. She said she's not ready for a relationship right now. I said, "That's okay, I guess." Then she's avoiding me at work. I try talking to her, she finds something to do. I then have my friend give her her favorite kind of pie, and she has a huge blowup in front of everyone. Calling me an asshole and a needy bitch. I since haven't talked to her. She sent me a message apologizing. I said I forgive her, but I still wasn't keen on talking to her. I was doing my job, when her mom came through my line. She had no idea who I was, and was talking to me. Then my ex comes up beside me, and said "hi" with my name. Now, I knew damn well who her mom was. I wasn't going to let her know who I was. Her mom goes, "Oh, you're(name). I've heard about you. Not all bad things." I didn't say anything. I just wanted both of them to be gone. One night, I was stuck without a ride, forgotten in the parking lot till 11(I got out at 8, and phone was off). Ex walks out, sees me stranded, walks toward her car. Her and her mom are talking for a second, then her mom backs out. Her mom sticks her head out the window, looks at me, and floors it going out the parking lot. This was way before the apology. I'm not sure what to do here.
I told my parents I was working one day, then went to my friend's house, as I was not allowed over there for some reason. I was there maybe two hours, and I noticed I wasn't having fun. I was shut out, as my friend had another friend over. I don't talk to many people, but this one. And I don't even want to talk to this one now. He's sold me out so many times. I don't trust anyone, but I figured I could at least tell him why I was so weird at times. He told the whole damn school.
I'd rather work than hang with friends. I got two jobs, and I barely have any time to do anything, and I love it. I never take a day off. I don't exactly blow money, but my step mom takes maybe $400( three quarters of my paycheck) to use. I can say nothing about it. She's disabled, so she gets maybe $600 a month. She has no damn bills to pay, no car, no life. She uses her mom's Buick Lacrosse to ferry her ass around.
Her nephew uses me for work. He'll take me, make me do shit, and do nothing to help, and not pay me. I find excuses not to go. He's since been a massive dick to me because of it.
Here's how my life goes. I wake up, get dressed, take a piss, go to first job at 6 in the morning, call it quits for the day at 12, go to next job at one, don't get home till 11, grab something to eat, go to bed. I'm made fun of because I work two jobs. I look up to people who work. Not to those who collect checks for doing nothing. If you've really got something going on, then it's okay. But not when you rip butts all day, play fucking Pokemon go, drive around, and drink Mtn Dew all day.
I'm known to not talk to anyone for a week straight at high school. I fix computers, and when I have nothing better to do, I do that. Get made fun of that, too. But I have a couple nice ones I rebuilt, made into showcases, and I rotate them through the week. I don't see a problem doing this. If you look in the back of the class, you'll find me with a multimeter, a laptop disassembled, and two laptops open in front of me, minding my own business. You look around the class, you got one guy snorting salt on the desk, another vaping, and the teacher not paying attention.
My mom was out of my life when I was 3. I know nothing about her, what she looks like, what her name is. My father won't tell me. I want to know. I feel like I have a right to know. He tells me I'm not old enough. I tell him I'm 16. How old do I have to be? He tells me when he feels I'm ready. I guess she lost me and her two other sons due to child abuse. Lost all parental rights. I'm told it's a hell of a thing to rip a child from his/her mother, and if that happens, it's extreme. What the hell could she have done to me? I'm not hurting every day. I have no scars. I don't understand. I was told it's not my fault. I did nothing. She's just a crazy bitch. I kinda laughed and said, "Then why did my father knock her up?" The reply was "He didn't intend to." That stung.
Me and my father are slowly rebuidling a '98 Chevy S-10. We figured we could put a 6.0L in there. We slowly work on it, and it's the only time I have with my father. We're both always working, we never stop, we never slow down, we never want to not have a job.
When I was 6, we moved to a trailer park. Fast forward 2 months, we had no lights, no food, no money to do anything. My father was working his ass off, and was always tired. He put in a woodstove, so we did wood for warmth. I remember vividly having to wake up at midnight to get fuel for the generator. That's not how a kid should live. You know, all these kids at high school have everything. They never had to do any of that as a kid. They never had to work for their own warmth. My father's wife, she's always had everything given to her. Her kids never went without. They don't know what it means when the lights go out. When you can barely speak because you're so tired from working. When the only thing is the cabinet is a jar of peanut butter and saltines.
I remember he took me to the drags. We saw all kinds of cars. We saw all kinds of cars doing brakestands, muscle cars lifting off the line. It was the best day of my life. I was like 13. Later that night, we went out to eat.
He's changed. He;s now got enough money to have a house, a brand new truck in the driveway, underglow lights(and no, not the cheap ones), stereo system, tinted windows, modded motor. And this truck is only driven every other Sunday. He wanted a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and I encouraged him to get one. It's both our favorite cars. We both ignore the shitty 6-bangers backfiring downtown. We're both similar, but we both try to avoid each other. I honestly think I disappoint him. He didn't want me. He never did. I think I remind him of the slut he impregnated. An ex made a rude comment on it. I still have it saved. " I said something along the lines of, "With his current behavior he's gonna end up just like his damn father. Angry, unhappy, and with a bastard child who whenever he looks at all he sees is the whore he fucked and all he feels for it is regret."
If he didn't want me, he shouldn't have fought. I try not think about it, but it comes often.

2020.08.29 02:15 AlistairBennet Moving in the spring, have some questions

Sup y’all.
I recently accepted a position up there and will be moving from Birmingham around the spring. I checked out the guides and wikis but the neighborhood sections don’t seem...complete? Up to date, maybe?
Anyway, was hoping someone from the Ham could give me a break down of neighbors compared to the Birmingham area? What’s the Huntsville Hoover? Mtn Brooke, Ensley equivalent.
Thanks y’all and see ya in the spring! Hope my wife and I can make some socially distant meet ups and make some new friends.
Love, AB
